Who or what is the VdS?

VdS = Verband der Schadenversicherer (Association of Indemnity Insurers), an institution of the Gesamtverband deutscher Versicherer (GdV, German Insurance Association). Draws up guidelines for extinguishing systems and assesses the planning, design and effectiveness of extinguishing systems. The VdS inspects systems following installation based on its own guidelines (e.g. VdS CEA 4001) and other regulations. These inspections are mostly performed by accredited experts.
